PSD President Marcel Ciolacu said on Thursday that every Romanian has the right to personally react “to the humiliation” that Austria has subjected us to after it blocked Romania’s accession to the Schengen area. The PSD president’s statement was made in Bacău at a press conference and takes place in the context in which President Klaus Iohannis declared that Romania will not boycott Austria.
“Boycotting each of us for the humiliation that Austria has subjected us to is quite another. Each of us, regardless of position or not, has the right to personally react to the gesture, I repeat, not of the Austrians, but of those who, like us, have been in charge of the Austrian state for a certain time. . I think I was as clear as possible,” said Marcel Cholaku in Bacau.
The PSD leader also said that the Romanian state “has the right to respond with the same currency” to Austria.
“If the leading decision-makers in Austria at this moment thought it necessary to vote against the recommendation of the European Commission for the accession of Romania, Bulgaria and Croatia to the Schengen area, then I believe that the Romanian state also has the right to respond with the same currency. accordingly, as you well know, decisions are made by consensus, a vote against means the right of veto. I still believe that it should be done by the Romanian state,” Colacu explained.
President Klaus Iohannis said on Wednesday, in a statement to the press before the meeting of the European Council, that there will be no boycott of the Romanian state and public authorities in Romania against Austria, after Vienna blocked our country’s accession to Schengen.
“I heard opinions, advice. There will be no boycott of Austria by the state and authorities,” Johannis said.
