The EU’s 27 member states have agreed to impose new sanctions on Russia in response to the Russian military’s incursion into Ukraine, the Czech presidency of the EU has announced.
The European Commission unveiled a new package of sanctions on December 7, proposing that almost 200 individuals and entities, including the Russian military and three banks, be added to the EU’s blacklist.
Among other things, the Commission recommended a ban on any new investment in the Russian mining industry, a ban on the export of components for the production of UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) to Russia, and a tightening of restrictions on the export of products that could be used by its “combat vehicle” in Moscow.
Agreement on this ninth package of EU sanctions against Moscow was reached unanimously by the 27 ambassadors in Brussels on the sidelines of the summit.
It remains to draw up and sign only the formalities (tomorrow, Friday), the Czech Republic, which presides over the EU, said in a statement.
