FCSB and CFR Cluj will meet in the remaining match of the 9th stage of the Super League, which is essentially a derby between the teams that will most likely fight together with Farul Constanca for the title of Romanian champion.

FCSB are coming off the back of a run of five consecutive league wins, results that have moved Gigi Becali’s side into 4th place in the standings with 35 points from 19 matches, six less than tonight’s opponents CFR Cluj (also 19 matches) and nine below leader Farul Konstanz (20 matches).

Mihai Stojka, general manager of FCSB, fired up the mood ahead of the derby with his statement that referred to the arbitration that CFR Cluj has won in the last five championships it has won.

“Now, with VAR, it’s going to be a little more difficult, you can end this terrible series. We all know how this series was created. We are not idiots! In the final of the last championship, several serious refereeing errors were absent. Now, with VAR, there have been fewer referee errors,” said Mihai Stoyka.

“In the last championship, we could have won the title much earlier if it were not for refereeing errors. It is not inspiring who chooses to talk about refereeing errors now that we have seen what happened in the latter stages, the decision against us.

I am deeply disappointed that now one person is putting pressure on the referees,” replied Christian Balay, executive president of the group from Gruy.

CFR Cluj arrived in the capital on the back of four wins and a draw in their last five Super League games, a run that was interrupted by a goal conceded in the 90th minute of a 1-1 (d) match against FC Botosani.

Transylvania are second in the standings with 41 points from 19 matches, three less than leaders Farul Konstanz, who do however have one match in hand, and six more than tonight’s opponents, FCSB .

Otherwise, Dan Petrescu is ready to accept the offer to extend the contract with CFR Cluj for another five years (2024 – 2029): “I think I met with the boss a month ago. At the end of that discussion, he offered it to me, and I said yes.”

FCSB won both legs against CFR Cluj in the playoffs last season, 1-0 away (Oct. Popescu, 74) and 3-1 at home (Oct. Popescu, 30, Shot, 64, 87 / K. Dimitrov, 45 ), but the Transylvanians won the title with a point advantage.
