Police and penitentiary workers are organizing a protest rally outside the Ministry of Finance on Thursday, demanding full payment of the salary gap, updating of food and equipment standards, and indexation of military pensions and salaries.
The Union of European Police Officers Europol and the National Union of Penitentiary Policemen SNPP, which are part of the Federation of Publishers and the National Bloc of Trade Unions, are organizing a protest action for the application of the framework law on wages, as well as for the recognition of the complexity of the work, which is associated with special risks that are not sufficiently compensated by legislation .
The protest action will take place on Thursday, from 11:00, near the Ministry of State Finance.
Unions demand for police and penitentiary police full payment of the outstanding difference in salary (Law 153/2017), update of legal norms regarding proper food and equipment, update of the scope of rights restricted since 2010, indexation of military pensions and salaries correlated with real inflation, addition the law on the state budget with the necessary amounts.
“Since 2009, the rights to the wages of police officers, penitentiaries, military personnel and contract workers have been suspended, limited, kept at a lower level, blocked or, in general, “frozen”. None of the three pay laws issued since 2009 applied to law enforcement and national security personnel, and now that Law 153/2017 on pay for staff from budget funds was to be applied in full, once again the police, penitentiary police officers, military personnel and contract workers are “casualties of service”, they claim.
EI adds that some elements of wages are provided at the level of 2009, which creates discrimination and unfairness in wages, and because of the suspension of the application of Law 153/2017, dissatisfaction, resignations and insufficient attractiveness of professions in the system have been achieved.
“Although our proposal to update the ‘salary’ which had not been updated for 13 years was accepted, the ‘freeze’ of some salary entitlements was still maintained through GEO, although they are updated based on objective mechanisms, they are still paid at the previous level years In particular, the payment of meals is 75% of the amount to which each employee is entitled, limited rights to equipment, although the price of goods cannot be maintained (the only way out is a discount on quality). Governors need to understand that all these fiscal and budgetary measures, restrictions, suspensions, keeping the rights to wages at a low level, are an attack on national security in conditions where not a day goes by without layoffs, employees retire due to lack of predictability, and in agent and sergeant schools, we reached the competition of 1 candidate for 1st place,” the trade unions also say.
They claim that the salaries of police officers and penitentiaries are “deliberately kept at a mediocre level.”
