Portuguese fans thought it was the last time they would see the multiple Golden Ball winner on the international stage, writes the Daily Mail.
According to CM Journal, Ronaldo wants to continue and is already targeting the next final tournament – the 2024 European Championship in Germany.
CR7 missed out on Portugal’s starting XI in his side’s recent matches in Qatar, but is hoping to get back on the pitch at the age of 39. His intention was confirmed by a message posted on social media on Sunday, when he said he would never turn his back on his colleagues and his country.
Cristiano Ronaldo needs one more match to become the most capped player in international football. Coming off the bench against Morocco, he marked his 196th senior international appearance, level with Kuwait’s Badr Al-Mutawa.
If he makes it to Euro 2024, the former Manchester United man will win his sixth European Championship 20 years after his first, when Portugal reached the final after losing to Greece.
