The church could get more money, given the amendment passed by the Joint Budget and Finance Committee on the 2023 appropriations bill.
An amendment was adopted stating that “€517,200 is allocated monthly for the support of religious institutions abroad, which carry out activities aimed at supporting the linguistic, cultural and religious identity of Romanians abroad.”
In the project accepted by the Government, it was about 442,200 euros.
According to the adopted amendment: “it is necessary to add 75,000 euros per month both to increase the amount of support for the 850 official positions that receive a contribution from the state budget, and for approximately 40 official positions that do not currently benefit from any financial support” .
Note that this amendment is to the text of the budget law. It is likely that the figures assigned to cults by the General Secretariat of the Government will be changed in accordance with this amendment.
