Nick Carter, one of the members of the American group Backstreet Boys, was accused of rape on Thursday by a former fan diagnosed with autism, who said he raped her in 2001, when she was 17 years old, AFP reported.
Shannon Ruth, accompanied by her lawyer, announced at a press conference in California that she filed a complaint regarding the rape committed by the singer on the sidelines of the group’s concert in Tacoma, the American state of Washington.
“Even though I’ve been diagnosed with autism and live with cerebral palsy, I don’t think anything in my life has hurt me more than what Nick Carter did to me,” the now 39-year-old tearfully said.
After asking for her autograph, the star invited her onto a tour bus, where he offered her a “strange-tasting” drink he described as “VIP juice,” plaintiff’s attorney Mark Boskovich said.
After drinking the juice, Carter took the young woman to the bus bathroom, where he told her to kneel, removed her genitalia and ordered her to perform oral sex, he said.
Nick Carter allegedly raped her on the band’s bus
According to the lawyer, the teenager, who was a virgin at the time, cried throughout the ordeal, and the singer continued his aggression.
He then “pushed her onto the bed” in the back of the bus “and raped her despite her protests,” he added.
According to the lawyer, the star, now 42, called her a “retarded whore” who “no one will believe” if she denounces the facts.
Ruth filed a civil lawsuit in Las Vegas, Nevada, where she and the singer live. She is seeking monetary compensation, the amount of which has not been disclosed.
And other women accuse Nick Carter of sexual assault
According to her lawyer, the complaint contains statements from three more women who also accuse the singer of sexual violence. They wish to remain anonymous and have not yet filed individual complaints.
Nick Carter, whose band produced the hits “I Want It That Way” and “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)”, was also accused of rape by American singer Melissa Shuman in 2017.
In this case, Carter has always denied the facts, and the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office did not prosecute him because the reported facts have passed.
“This statement is completely false”
Carter’s representatives did not respond to the new allegations Thursday. The singer did not mention the complaint on social media, where recent posts have paid tribute to his brother, who died last month.
“This claim is completely false,” a member of his entourage told celebrity site TMZ. “Nick is focused on his family and mourning his brother,” he added. (Source Agerpres)
