More than 300 workers at the Petromidia oil refinery are protesting on Tuesday, unhappy with the postponement of salary increase negotiations, refusing to go to work until they receive an answer from management, news.ro reports.

Petromidia refinery union leader Petre Tankeu told news.ro that workers are protesting after the refinery’s management decided to postpone negotiations for a salary increase until the month of February.

“People don’t want to go to work until we finish the negotiations on raising wages. We have been negotiating for two months, and yesterday they told us to postpone the negotiations until February. I told people, and they didn’t want to go to work in the morning. We asked for an increase of 1,500 lei, but the problem was not the amount, we had to complete it, or this delay is disturbing people,” Petre Tankeu said.

According to Digi 24, people’s incomes are about 3,000 lei, which, they say, is not enough to support a family.

Tankeau said about 300 people are protesting, with workers who were supposed to start their shift in the morning and those from the night shift still on the job.

The trade union leader said that he does not know how long this protest will last.

“I don’t know how long it will take, it’s up to the administration to respond. This is their respect for the workers who make the production. We don’t have any signal from the management,” Petre Tankeu said.

He stated that this protest does not affect the operations of the refinery. (article photo source © Levente Naghi | Dreamstime.com)
