
Prime Minister and President of New Democracy Kyriakos Mitsotakis today took part in the work of the two-day conference of the leaders of the European People’s Party in Athens, on the sidelines of which he held bilateral meetings with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der LeyenMinister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister of Italy Antonio Tajani and President of the EPP Manfred Weber.
Sources N.D. said that during the meeting of leaders the strategy of the European centre-right and important issues regarding the future of the European Union, such as energy security, economic governance and defense, were discussed.
The previous meeting between the Prime Minister and the President of the European Commission discussed the challenges facing the European Union, with a focus on the war in Ukraine and joint solutions to overcome the consequences of the energy crisis of the next European Council.
The same sources said that during the meeting with Mr. Tajani, the excellent level of Greek-Italian relations and the mutual desire to strengthen bilateral cooperation were noted.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis unequivocally condemned the attack on the car of a diplomat working at the Italian embassy in Athens, and stressed that the Greek authorities are doing everything possible to identify and arrest the perpetrators.
The Prime Minister held a preliminary exchange of views with Mr. Weber on the strategy of the European People’s Party and the optimal coordination of initiatives to address the real problems facing European citizens.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis also met with the head of the German Christian Democratic Union (CDU), Friedrich Merz.
