Canada took action on Friday against an Iranian company accused of supplying drones to Russia as part of a new round of sanctions in response to the “abhorrent behavior of the Iranian regime both at home and abroad,” AFP reported.
Earlier this month, Canada already imposed sanctions on two Iranian arms companies accused of sending drones and personnel to Russia to attack Ukraine.
Thus, Ottawa imposes sanctions against four individuals and five organizations “for their role in gross and systematic violations of human rights and for the actions of the regime that continue to threaten international peace and security.”
Among the targets of the retaliatory measures, commercial cargo company Safiran Airport Services “coordinated Russian military flights between Iran and Russia” and is accused of helping deliver Iranian drones to Moscow for use in Ukraine.
Canada is also targeting Baharestan Kish, a company specializing in the development and production of military drones in Iran, which has contracts with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the ideological arm of the Iranian government.
The US already took action against these two companies in September.
The ultra-conservative Iranian newspaper Javan, “which spreads anti-Semitic messages and propaganda of the Iranian regime,” is also on the list.
Officials targeted include Morteza Talai, second brigadier general of the Guard, Hasan Karami, law enforcement commander, and Ali Ganaatkar Mawardiani, a senior judge and prosecutor.
“Canada will not stand by while the regime commits increasingly serious and massive human rights violations against the Iranian people,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
In total, the Canadian government has imposed sanctions on 99 individuals and 181 Iranian entities, including the Morality Police, in recent weeks.
