The footage was released by the Ministry of Defense in London on the occasion of Minister Ben Wallace’s visit to a contingent of 120 New Zealand soldiers sent by the Wellington government to Great Britain to train the Ukrainian military training there.

According to the same source, more than 7,400 servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have already been trained by their New Zealand colleagues.

It will be recalled that on April 23, former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that the Ukrainian military is training in the UK to use the armored vehicles that London will provide to Kyiv to counter the invasion launched by Vladimir Putin at the end of February.

In contrast to other countries, measures announced over the months by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s government to help Ukraine have consisted mostly of multimillion-dollar financial packages to help Kiev purchase military equipment.

How New Zealand helps Ukrainian troops

Although New Zealand announced in the immediate aftermath of the Russian invasion that it would send a limited amount of ammunition to Ukrainian forces, the government in Wellington has generally avoided making direct military donations to Ukraine.

In addition to financial support, the New Zealand forces have sent dozens of military instructors to Britain and other European countries where the Ukrainian military is trained. The number of instructors during the months remains unchanged – more than 100.

Jacinda Ardern announced in mid-November that her government would send 66 more infantrymen to train Ukrainian forces by the middle of next year.

“Continued support builds on the military, diplomatic, legal and humanitarian assistance packages provided by the New Zealand Aotearoa government since the start of the war of aggression in February,” Ardern said.

“Putin’s continuation of this war is fundamentally wrong. We demand that Russia withdraw from Ukraine. Ukrainians, both in uniform and civilians, are dying every day as Russia’s senseless attacks continue,” she added.

On August 1, the Ardern government expanded its sanctions against Russia to include an “extensive network” of organizations that support Moscow’s armed forces, according to a statement by Foreign Minister Nanai Makhuta.

“President Putin and the armed forces of Russia are responsible for violating the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, which is a serious violation of fundamental international law,” Naguta said.

New Zealand first imposed sanctions against Russia in March, initially against Russian President Vladimir Putin and his key supporters.

The New Zealand government also estimates that it has given asylum to 4,000 Ukrainian families who fled the war.
