Carlos Queiroz (Iran) and Gerardo Martino (Mexico) are no longer selectors after elimination from the 2022 World Cup
Iran failed to reach the round of 16 after losing to the USA 0-1. The Iranians needed a draw to continue the competition in Qatar.
Having been eliminated from the group stage, Carlos Queiroz leaves the technical bench of the Iranian reserves.
“I’m proud of you, you’ve been brilliant on and off the pitch again. It has been a great honor and privilege to be part of this football family.
I believe that you deserve the full respect and trust of the fans of your country and football.
I wish everyone happiness, peace, success and health. Thank you” – Carlos Queirozin an address to the Iranian players he coached until recently.
The Portuguese arrived on the shores of Iran in September of this year.
Another coach who parted ways with the team he was preparing for the 2022 World Cup is Gerardo Martino.
At the age of 60, the Argentine could not lead the Mexicans to the eighth final. They were dramatically eliminated by one goal, and Poland entered the top 16 teams of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Martino’s contract expires after the World Cup and there will be no other deal. “I am responsible for the elimination,” said the coach, among other things.
Gerardo Martino has been coaching the Mexicans since 2019.
