strong seismic vibration, 5 degrees on the Richter scale, occurred at 22:06 in the southern part of Evia, according to the Unified National Seismological Network of the Institute of Geodynamics of the National Observatory of Athens.

The epicenter is located 6 km southeast of Zaraki on the island of Evia, i.e. at the same point as morning vibrations, and at a distance of 56 km northeast of Athens.

In accordance with Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centerthe vibration was strong 5.2 Richter.

Speaking at kathimerini.gr, Professor of Dynamic Tectonics and Applied Geology Efthymyos Lekkas, spoke about an increasing process in Richter quantities. “An even bigger earthquake could happen, but the probability is low,” he said, adding: “This particular fault is surface and Attica is in its direction, which means that energy is coming here.”

He added that “this is an area with no history of seismicity” and that “we are moving into the unknown. It should take 2-3 days before we calm down. Although we are not worried about anything, the situation has become more complicated.”

Professor, Department of Geology, AUTH, Kostas Papazachosin an interview with kathimerini.gr, he said that the earthquake was strong and the phenomenon was in full swing.

“We do not know if there is a major earthquake, we have a phenomenon in full sequence, in full development. Residents should be very careful about old houses. Our area is completely unknown,” he said and added: “We are waiting and skeptical about what the area will bring.”

Director of the Department of Seismological Research of the Geodynamic Institute of the Athens National Observatory, Gerasimos Papadopoulos, he stated to kathimerini.gr that the vibration “comes from the same fault as in the morning” and that the earthquake was “quite strong, more noticeable than in the morning”.

In a Facebook post, Mr. Papadopoulos said: “I wrote this morning: “There is still no certainty that the magnitude 4.8 earthquake was a major one. We need more evidence.” Nature has given us most of the elements. After today’s 5, I came to the conclusion that 4.8 was not a master.”

He, in his statements to APE-MPE, said: “We are monitoring the development of the phenomenon, I hope we have nothing important at night, and tomorrow morning we will study it in more detail.”

Speaking to evima, he said: “I don’t know if there will be a bigger earthquake, there is a possibility because we are talking about an unknown fault. However, I would like to clarify that even in the case of a larger earthquake, according to my estimates, it will be an earthquake that buildings can withstand, it will not be catastrophic.
