The competition will take place from December 13 to 18, and the athlete registered with CS Dinamo Bucharest gave an interview in which he mentioned his goals for the competition, as well as his goals for 2023.

David Popovich doesn’t have big goals in Melbourne – this is a learning opportunity

The European and world champion at the distances of 100 and 200 meters free until adulthood, David Popovici, perceives the competition in Australia as an experience and did not set high goals for himself.

“It’s not the most important competition for me, it’s an opportunity to learn how to compete in a 25m pool at the highest level, and although I’m not going there with super strong goals, as long as I have a lane, I have a chance, anything can happen.

I can’t wait to get there, I want to see Australia, I want to compete in Australia and get back to some form of competition.

It would be difficult to manage the World Cup at the end of the year if it was a big gate competition because although it is an important competition for many, I still need to gain experience.

Now I’m learning, I still have a lot to learn from my opponents who are better than me in the 25-meter pool, so for me this World Championship is like a journey where I’m learning.” – said David Popovichi.

At the same time, the “shark” also specified how important the National Championship in Otopeni was, where he won gold medals for 100, 200, 400 meters and silver for 100 meters mixed.

“It was the first event of the year that I managed to start in the 25m and it’s a big thing to adjust to because it’s so different for me… some people really like it, I like it a lot more in the long pool because I have enough meters to gain speed.

It would have been difficult for me at the World Championships if I hadn’t competed at the nationals in the short distance. The competition in Otopeni helped me a lot.” – he added.

“I want to do really well in 2023 at the World Long Distance Championships in Japan and hopefully I can add some good places and maybe some records… there’s no rush but I’m never disappointed if I can win oneself.

For me, 2022 was a glorious year, I felt it.” – concluded Davyd Popovych.
