Portugal defeated Uruguay (2:0) in the second group match of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and in a few minutes Cristiano Ronaldo became one of the Lusitanians’ scorers.
The mystery of Ronaldo’s “ghost” goal is revealed by the technology in the Adidas ball
With the score at 0-0, Bruno Fernandes delivered a powerful cross and at first glance it looked like his former Manchester United team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo was heading the ball back into the net.
It definitely wasn’t a Cristiano Ronaldo goal, say Adidas, who used a 500Hz IMU sensor inside the match ball to show the lack of contact. Images are attached @MailSport pic.twitter.com/mjRZwcv8n8

Although FIFA initially credited the goal to Cristiano Ronaldo, in the end it was decided that success belongs to Bruno Fernandes.
Immediately after the match, Cristiano Ronaldo contacted journalist Piers Morgan and told him that the goal should belong to him.
However, a few hours later, Adidas confirmed that the Portuguese forward did not touch the ball and attributed this to a sensor inside the ball, according to Connected Ball technology.
