Wide scale completed police operation in the Alexandra refugee area, which began on Tuesday morning.

Authorities proceeded to arrest 78 people. According to EL.AS, the persons in question climbed onto the roof of the building and threw a number of objects (stones, building materials, etc.) at the police officers who were working at the scene.

During the operation, seven police officers were injured, two of them seriously.

A criminal case was initiated against 78 arrested persons on violent acts against officials and judicial persons, violation of public order, infliction of bodily harm jointly, infliction of grievous bodily harm by complicity and attempted damage to foreign property, as well as violation of laws on weapons, signal rockets and sparklers.

The preliminary investigation is being conducted by the State Security Subdivision of the Attica Security Directorate. It is expected that those arrested will be brought to the competent prosecution authorities.

Detention of defendant in arson case

According to EL.AS, an operation was carried out to detain the person involved in the arson case. The information indicates that this is a 27-year-old man who is accused of setting fire to the premises of the Real Group journalistic group in July last year.

The 27-year-old man has been charged with creating a criminal organization, bombings, arson and possession of explosives. The detainee was in an apartment in the L. Alexandra Refugee Center, while his partner was also brought, who was subsequently released. A computer and two mobile phones were seized from the apartment.

According to the official version of the police, his involvement in the arson of the premises of the journalistic group “Real Group” was identified by video recording, while his involvement in other arsons is being investigated.
