
OUR budget 2023, which will be discussed before Christmas in Parliament, is the main topic of today’s cabinet meeting under Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
In his opening remarks at the beginning of the cabinet meeting, Mr Mitsotakis noted that “this year’s budget shows that the other side of economic policy is social concern,” adding that “the country remains resilient, citizen-centered, in a time of international turmoil.”
“According to the data, growth is expected to triple, and unemployment is declining. The situation is not easy, but the national economy is resisting, and this allows us to take the initiative to help citizens. Removing the solidarity levy, raising the minimum wage and raising pensions are some of the important measures we have taken to support our weak fellow citizens,” he said.
Mr. Mitsotakis noted that measures are being taken to overcome the energy crisis, and also announced assistance to the primary sector. “We have a €1 billion emergency reserve in case we need to cover other needs, and I foresee emergency support for farmers and livestock keepers in the face of increased feed costs,” he said.
At the same time, he announced during his presentation that emergency subsidies would be provided energy as well as accuracy if needed.
“The situation is not easy. We work hard, but we try not to work,” he explained and stressed that, if necessary, extraordinary subsidies for energy and accuracy will be provided.
However, the Prime Minister warned that the coming months will be difficult and uncertain, and therefore the government will be close to the citizens, without succumbing to populism.
“The Russian invasion is putting pressure on the world economy, many European countries will face recession, we will not be one of these countries,” he said.
