And the players believe that the defense is to blame for the defeat against Japan

“We controlled the match, but then we allowed the opponent to enter the game. If you do not show that you are present, you pay. This is what happened today. We lost because we missed a lot of scoring opportunities, that’s understandable. We also defended poorly. Japan pressed in one-on-one matches, we were not calm either. We needed a better position like in the first half. We need to improve in many aspects. I think it was our most important game and we lost it. We have to show a different face against Spain, which is the most difficult opponent,” – Manuel Neuer.

“We made Japan’s life too easy. Some things, especially the second goal, shouldn’t happen at the World Cup. Manuel Neuer saved us several times, we had incredible chances to make it 2-0. This should not happen to us. We didn’t even have time to build. We gave up keeping the ball and preferred long balls. I almost got the feeling that not everyone wants the ball. I’ve lost control too many times” – Ilkay Gundogan.

“I feel we played well for most of the game, but in football you have to convert the lead into goals. We were ineffective today. It’s funny to start with a defeat, but if you look at the way we conceded goals, you can’t say that it was an undeserved defeat.
