2022 World Cup Mexico 0-0 Poland: draw thanks to Ochoa

Guillermo Ochoa saved Lewandowski’s penalty, while Mexico and Poland drew 0-0 in the third group of the World Cup. It was the second consecutive “white draw” after Denmark’s match with Tunisia for the fourth group.

AEK’s Pineda and Damian Simanski remained on the bench. The match had a historic character, as for the first time at the World Championships there was a woman in the refereeing team, and Stephanie Frapart acted as a quarterback.

Tata Martino’s team were aiming for an early goal early in the match. The hosts, as a rule, threatened mainly with set pieces. In the 13th minute, Moreno missed the target with his head.

Mexico had their first good chance of the game in the 26th minute when Vega conceded a header. Two minutes later, Gallardo passed by Sezna, but made no threat after that.

The rest of the first half consisted of several phases. Poland could not find a place and began to threaten, while Mexico also had problems in the final effort.

Poland converted a penalty in the 54th minute after a foul on Lewandowski. The same player took over, but Ochoa blocked his attempt.

In the 64th minute, it was Sezni’s turn to make a great save after a cross from Alvarez. Both teams spread the ball without threat and without long phases of the match.

In the fourth minute of stoppage time, Berezinski shot, but Ochoa blocked. Soon after, Krychowiak’s shot went wide, and Aduna’s effort didn’t bother Sezna.

Mexico (Martino): Ochoa, Sanchez, Montes, Moreno, Gayardo, Herrera (Rodriguez, 71), E. Alvarez, Chavez, Lozano, Martin (Jimenez, 71), Vega (Aduna, 84)

Poland (K. Mikhnevich): Sezny, Berezinski, Glik, Kivior, Kass, Kaminski, Krychowiak, S. Szymanski (Frankowski, 72), Zalewski (Belik, 46), Zelinski (Milik, 88), Lewandowski
