Petros Gatsias was born and lives in Athens. He works as a journalist and is the author of five books, the latest of which is Random Day (Odos Panos Publishing House). He was co-editor and member of the editorial board of the literary magazine Prosopio, a hotbed of young writers of the nineties.
“The Second Death of Ramon Mercander” by Sembrun, “How Much We Love Glenda” by Cortazar, the tribute “Odos Panos” to Tachzis and my friend Vangelis Raptopoulos’ book “The Best Thing That Happened to Me” because it reminds me a lot.
Robinson Crusoe. It is his will and life on a tropical island is still somehow mesmerizing. There are times when I think it would be like a shipwreck.
It all reminds me of the old Kylaidonis song, you know, “all together in a deep dungeon with a bottle of rum.” Of course, I would like Auster, Pamuk, Jules Verne, Cortazar and Marquez, and perhaps Fitzgerald and Hemingway would come in for a drink later.
Kohuta’s “The Man Who Walked Upside Down” reminded me many times that, unfortunately, it’s not good to be different from the crowd.
Orwell 1984
All books by Paul Auster. Many times.
This is, of course, fiction in a loose historical context. I tried to make Ginder and Ava’s story real. After all, as a journalist, I covered the end of the RAF.
Jinder takes the biggest risk. Maybe he got tired of hiding, and he certainly wasn’t tired. At some point, he is ready for anything.
Ava changes when she loses Ginder. She is stale, but remains emotional and ready for anything. When she meets Jinder on the island, she knows deep down that she cannot escape her fate. However, their story continues after the book.
