“Comparisons are inappropriate, Putin is Putin and Khrushchev was Khrushchev, may God rest his soul,” Dmytro Peskov told reporters in Moscow after being asked if the current situation in Ukraine could be compared to the Cuban missile crisis of 1962, when the United The United States and the Soviet Union were on the brink of nuclear conflagration.

“I don’t think Putin can be compared with anyone here,” he emphasized.

However, Vladimir Putin’s press secretary said that in both cases it is about Russia’s clash with the “collective West” led by Washington.

The phrase “collective West” is a favorite of Moscow propaganda, which uses this term to try to convince Russians that Moscow is not defeated in Ukraine by the armed forces of Kyiv, but by NATO and its allies.

Vladimir Putin himself repeatedly used this term in his speeches.

“These situations are similar, but on the other hand, the nuances are, of course, different,” Dmytro Peskov concluded.

How the Kremlin talked about comparing Vladimir Putin with Nikita Khrushchev

Russian journalists asked him about the comparison during his press conference after Israeli political scientist Yakov Kedmi, known for his pro-Russian views, suggested that the leadership in Moscow use the Cuban missile crisis to draw a parallel with the current war with Ukraine, launched by Putin on February 24.

According to him, a former politician and diplomat who made a career in Russia, at that time Moscow was able to “besiege” Washington, which may happen again.

In an interview on YouTube, Kedmi stated that the 1962 crisis was not resolved by compromise, but by Khrushchev’s ultimatum to the United States.

“[PreČ™edintele american John] Kennedy received an ultimatum with a knife in his throat,” said an Israeli political scientist, among other things.
