After more than two months, including a near-total strike and shortage, the government-mandated 30-cent discount has finally ended. Finally, the shutdown was postponed for two weeks to allow motorists to take advantage of this small discount, which is far from insignificant. Especially since TotalEnergies offered a 20 cents off can be stacked, bringing the total increase to 50 cents. But now, as of November 16, those two benefits have dropped to 10 cents each. Therefore, we inevitably had to expect a sharp rise in fuel prices, which have always been high since the beginning of the year. `

A nice surprise

But in the end, motorists were lucky enough to have a pleasant surprise. Indeed, while prices have apparently increased as expected, this increase remains more subdued than we might have expected. Indeed, according to recent estimates from the Ministry of Environmental Transition, the increase is ultimately less significant than we might have expected. A liter of diesel fuel really went up in price by 10.4 cents, and the average price is displayed at the level of 1.9059 euros, which of course is still high. For its part, unleaded gasoline 95 cost 13 cents per liter at 1.7828 euros. Of course, it’s all still expensive, but the pros outweigh the cons of the discount, which is a pretty good sign.

Butter down

But how is this possible? This can be explained, in particular, by a small drop in the price of oil, while a barrel of Brent now stands at $84, up from more than $140 at the start of the year. However, you will need to take advantage of the remaining discount, as it will be permanently discontinued from December 31. It should then be replaced with a more targeted aid designed specifically for heavy riders. But we’ll have to wait before we know the details.
