Iranian actress Hengame Ghaziani was arrested on Sunday by Iranian security services for publicly removing her Islamic headscarf in a video in support of the protest movement launched after the death of Mahsa Amini.
Hengame Ghaziani (52 years old) was arrested for inciting and supporting “riots”, as well as for communicating with opposition media, the official news agency Irna reported, News.ro writes.
Earlier, the artist reported that she was summoned to court, and then published a video on her Instagram in which she removes the veil.
“Maybe this will be my last message,” she wrote. “From now on, no matter what happens to me, know that, as always, I am with the Iranian people until my last breath,” she added.
The video, which appears to have been filmed on a shopping street, shows Hengame Ghaziani with her head uncovered in front of the camera, not speaking, then turns around and pulls a ponytail, as other women do before leaving for the protest.

Iran’s judicial authorities announced on Sunday that they had summoned Hengame Ghaziani and seven other figures from film, politics and sports for allegedly publishing “provocative” content in support of the protest movement, the agency said.
Among these personalities are the coach of the Persepolis FC football club Yahya Golmohammadi and former reformist parliamentarians Mahmoud Sadeghi and Parwane Salahshuri. Yahya Golmohammadi sharply criticized the national team’s players last week for not “bringing the voice of the oppressed people to the ears of the authorities” after the Iranian team met with President Ibrahim Raisi.
Two former MPs openly supported the protest movement, especially on Twitter, and condemned the use of force against demonstrators.
