Romania’s women’s epee team won the Marcello and Franco Bertinetti Trophy, a competition organized on Saturday in the Italian city of Vercelli.

Under the leadership of coach Robert Rigo were Bianca Benea, Alexandra Predescu, Greta Veres and Cristina Constantinescu.

Teams from Romania, Italy, Hungary and Switzerland took part in the competition. This was the second tournament reserved for women’s epee, the first being held last year.

On Saturday, in the first half of the day, Romania defeated the national teams of Hungary and Switzerland, advancing to the finals of the tournament against Italy. Thus, at the Teatro Civico, in Vercelli, the tricolors defeated Italy (Federico Isola, Roberta Marzani, Nicole Foietta, Alessandra Bozza) with a score of 45-31, managing to present the trophy at stake.

Bianca Benea won the Spada d’Oro prize for the best fencer of the competition, and Cristina Constantinescu received a special prize from the University of Eastern Piedmont, writes News.ro.
