In parallel with the electricity market for hydrogen, even if it remains marginal, continues to develop. Just look at the recent Paris Motor Show where several fuel cell models were unveiled. In particular, you can name HUV by NamX or evenHopium Machina Visiontwo prototypes of hydrogen cars of 100% French design.
Volkswagen is working on a new generation of hydrogen fuel cells
On the side of large manufacturers of a wide profile, there are other models, especially in utilities, which work on water. According to the materials of the American website Business Insidergiant volkswagen will be working on a new fuel cell propulsion system that seems revolutionary. The latter would be both are significantly cheaper than modern technologies and, in addition, will allow the use of hydrogen cars drive up to 2000 kilometers ! A patent has also recently been filed in this direction in collaboration with Kraftwerk TUBES GmbH.

A new fuel cell without platinum and lithium
This new fuel cell is different from what we can find today. With this new fuel cell, the researchers developed a system that completely abandons the use of platinum, a precious metal that increases final costs. Therefore, battery production is much cheaper.
Additionally, this stack uses ceramic diaphragm instead of the usual plastic membrane as a structure. Thus, complex and expensive systems used to wet the plastic membrane to prevent it from freezing at low temperatures and drying at high temperatures will no longer be needed.
The solution is not perfect yet
Finally, this new fuel cell does not need lithium, a component used in all electric vehicles.
At the moment, the goal is to use this technology in a production car by 2026. It remains to be seen if other technology will take over by then!
