China opposes the exclusion of Russia from the G20 and international organizations, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said, opening a bilateral meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov at the G20 summit in Indonesia, TASS reports.
“We are very glad that you are personally attending the G20 summit, representing Russia at the summit, this is a very glorious mission. We support Russia’s worthy role in the G20 and other international platforms and believe that no one has the right to deprive Russia of its rational right to participate in multilateral formats,” Wang Yi said.
He noted that he intends to discuss with his Russian colleague “issues of common interest, as well as cooperation to preserve the stable dynamics of bilateral relations.”
It will be recalled that Lavrov was hospitalized after arriving in Indonesia for the summit held in Bali, information about which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia tried to deny.
High-level talks at the G20 summit in Indonesia
The Chinese foreign minister’s comments came after Premier Li Keqiang stressed the “irresponsibility” of nuclear threats on Sunday, a senior US official said, suggesting Beijing does not like Russia’s nuclear rhetoric.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed the statements of the US and China at Asian meetings about the inadmissibility of threats to use nuclear weapons.
According to the White House, Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi agreed that nuclear war can never be reached and opposed threats to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine.
After the meeting with Xi, the US president said that there should not be a “new cold war” with China and assured that he would take a responsible approach to “competition” with Beijing. The US president also said he did not believe there was now a danger of an “imminent attempt” by China to invade Taiwan.
The meeting in Bali was the first meeting of the president in the White House with a Chinese counterpart after the inauguration of Joe Biden.
Ukraine demands that Russia respect its territorial integrity
Also at the G20 summit in Bali, during a video conference, President Zelensky presented a 10-point plan to end the war started by Vladimir Putin on February 24.
Among other things, Ukraine demands that Russia immediately withdraw its troops from the Zaporizhzhia NPP, which should be placed under the control of the IAEA and Ukrainian personnel.
Zelensky also demands the withdrawal of Russian troops and an end to hostilities, stressing that Russia must withdraw all its troops and armed formations from the territory of Ukraine, and Kyiv can take control of all sections of the state border with the Russian Federation.
The President of Ukraine says that this should be done simultaneously with the implementation of the UN Charter and the restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine and the world order.
Ukraine also demands from the whole world the recognition of a special tribunal for the crime of Russian aggression against Ukraine and the creation of an international mechanism for compensation for all damages caused by the war.
