“Maybe about 300 consumers are still disconnected, but most of them are near the front line,” Khartsenko told reporters on Friday, providing an update on recovery work after missile strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure on Thursday.

The situation is improving by the hour, he said, adding that he hopes “we can have at least 10 to 12 days of downtime to be able to restore the stability of the network.”

He confirmed that there was a failure on Thursday at the Khmelnytskyi NPP in the west and the power unit of the Rivne NPP in the northwest due to damage to substations and power lines.

“The power units stopped for several hours and diesel generators had to be used. However, now the situation is much better, access to the network of most power units has been restored, and I believe that in the near future we will be able to resume their activities,” said Khartsenko.

He noted that not only electricity, but also mobile communication networks, electric pumps used for water supply and waste processing suffer from the lack of electricity. Several cities, including Kyiv, were without water for four to 10 hours.

Almost half of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure has been disabled after a series of Russian airstrikes since the beginning of October, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said on Friday, reports AFP, EFE agency.
