Footage captured by Ukrainians shows a loud crash signaling the destruction of the first Russian missile, immediately followed by an IRIS-T missile seen in flight before hitting its target, causing a spectacular explosion.

The Ukrainians who filmed this moment are clearly impressed.

The first IRIS-T system, the most advanced air defense system in service with the German armed forces, arrived in Kyiv on October 11, a day after the Russian armed forces launched massive missile strikes on the Ukrainian capital and other important population centers in Ukraine. country.

The anti-aircraft missiles used by this system can hit targets at an altitude of up to 20 kilometers and at a distance of up to 40 kilometers. Thus, their range is much greater than, for example, shoulder-based anti-aircraft missiles, such as the Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, which Germany also supplies to Ukraine.

The cost of the IRIS-T system is 140 million euros.

Last Thursday, the government of Chancellor Olaf Scholz promised to supply Ukraine with 3 more IRIS-T air defense systems, as well as the missiles necessary for their operation.
