Perhaps the most bizarre goal of the year was scored in the match “Stevenage” – “Hartlepool” from the 18th round of the Second League, the fourth echelon of English football.

Despite the difference in the standings, Hartlepool, who are 23rd out of 24 with just 12 points, were level with second-placed Stevenage on 39 for 79 minutes. Then came Danny Rose’s “moment of genius” or “perfectly wrong goal” as the home forward’s achievement was described.

After a phase from Stevenage, the ball landed in the hands of goalkeeper Killip. He was preparing to hit and put the ball away, but even for a second he did not expect what would happen next. Rose, who was hiding behind the goal line, behind the bar, ran, stole the ball from the opponent’s goalkeeper, went around and scored the only goal of the game.
