
CFR Infrastructura has announced that a 2.18 billion lei contract has been signed for the modernization of 54 km of railway lines between Timisoara and Arad. Trains will be able to travel at a speed of 160 km/h instead of 100 km/h, and the line will be doubled at a distance of 50 km. The term of performance is 36 months according to the contract.
On the 57 km between Timisoara and Arad, the fastest train takes 49 minutes, other non-stop trains take 59 minutes, and the slowest Regio, with stops at all stations, takes 80-90 minutes.

– works on the modernization of railway infrastructure and superstructure on the section RONAȚ TRIAJ – ARAD (lot 4), with a length of 54.86 km, for a maximum speed of 160 km/h.
– construction works at Sânandrei, Băile Calacea, Ortisoara, Vinga, Sag and Aradu Nou stations
– construction works at 2 passenger stops, 1 commercial freight station
– works on modernization of artistic design – 6 bridges and 39 decks
– automatic signaling systems at 7 railroad crossings
– specific railway operational works
– signaling works with the implementation of the ERTMS system (ETCS level 2 and GSM-R) and BLAI on the entire route.
Goals of public and railway economy
– 6 pedestrian bridges at Sânandrei, Băile Calacea, Ortisoara, Vinga, Sag and Aradu Nou stations
– city pedestrian bridge in Arad Nou
– 4 upper passages at Sânandrei (DJ692A), Ortisoara (DJ693), Carani (DJ692), Vladimirescu (DN7) stations
– 11 underpasses, of which 9 at Arada Nou, 1 at Ortishoara station, respectively 1 passage at Sag station
– sound-absorbing panels with a total length of 9410 m;
– loading and unloading ramps at Ortishoara, Winga and Arad Nou stations
The general purpose of the contract is to modernize the railway line along the entire route, modern railway services in the areas intended for travelers, to improve the conditions of operation and operation of the railway necessary to maximize the volume of transported goods, and to fulfill the following specific objectives:
– improving the geometry of the track and increasing the bearing capacity of the track to ensure the movement of trains at a speed of up to 160 km/h;
– modernization of stations and stops, adjustment of working capacity to traffic volumes and technological needs;
– modernization of passenger station buildings, construction of pedestrian bridges and raising the level of platforms in accordance with current European standards;
– doubling of the line (depending on terrain conditions);
– work on bridges/overpasses, drainage system, improvement of ground base and embankments;
– works on raising the level of the track and anti-erosion protection of the railway embankment in areas of flooding;
– installation of sound-absorbing panels and/or alternative solutions to reduce the noise level on railway sections passing through populated areas;
– installation of electronic centralization and implementation of the ERTMS security system (ETCS level 2 + GSM-R);
– modernization of telecommunications equipment;
– installation of floor heaters on receiving-departing lines, stations, traffic stops and branches, to combat the impact of snow on the KF line.
