German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Tuesday during the G20 summit, which is being held on the island of Bali (Indonesia), that sooner or later Russia will have to admit that the withdrawal of its troops from Ukraine is the only solution to this conflict. .
“Finally, the moment must come when Russia recognizes and agrees that it must get out of this situation, and one of the demands is the withdrawal of troops” from the territory of Ukraine, Olaf Scholz said at a press conference, according to the EFE and Agerpres agencies.
Regarding the ten-point proposal for achieving peace in Ukraine, presented by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, the German Chancellor reiterated that “now it is important that Russia stops the war of aggression and withdraws its troops.”
This is the basis for achieving a situation where it is possible to negotiate peace, which cannot be dictated from Russia’s point of view, because neither Ukraine nor the international community will accept it, Olaf Scholz emphasized.
The German Chancellor spoke in favor of maintaining a dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin, as he has done personally in recent months.
“I think it is right to have a constant dialogue in which we discuss exactly those aspects that we see differently,” he said, recalling that he held discussions not only with the Ukrainian president, but also with the Russian leader before and during war
Scholz: “Many countries that refrained from condemning the Russian invasion are convinced that this war is unjust and unnecessary”
Scholz also referred to the draft G20 agreement, which he said clearly states that “this aggressive war is unacceptable,” that every effort must be made to counter its impact on the rest of the world, and that “the use of nuclear weapons cannot be about power and speech”.
“This is a consensus that is gradually gaining strength here,” the German chancellor said, calling it “particularly valuable” that the approach “has gained such importance” at this summit and that an agreement has been reached on the final statement, which from this point of view, ” no one rejects.”
In this sense, the Chancellor of Germany referred to the UN General Assembly, in which there was a “clear majority” in the matter of condemning Russia and Russia’s aggressive war.
Referring to the presence of “other points of view”, Scholz emphasized that many countries that refrained from condemning the Russian invasion “are convinced that this war is unjust and unnecessary”.
