Finance Minister Adrian Cachiu on Wednesday rejected the idea of increasing the pension point by 15% from January 1, 2023. He said Coalition leaders were discussing a “budget package given to the pension budget for a 15% increase”, without giving details of how this would be reflected in the pension score.
“I ask everyone to have faith. I remind everyone that last year only on November 20 it became known how much pensions will increase in 2022. As you know, there was no plan to increase pensions with the former Government, there were negotiations with the new Coalition, and based on the established program, I also announced a social package.
I think in a week’s time we will have that decision and I think the Coalition leaders will come out with a package of measures because it’s not just about pensioners’ incomes, it’s about citizens’ incomes and we have to support those who get hit by inflation, which is low and middle income people. Inflation does not hit the rich.”the finance minister said on Wednesday.
