Three U.S. officials said preliminary assessments indicated that the missile that reached Poland was fired by Ukrainian forces at a Russian one that was targeted on Ukrainian soil during Tuesday’s attack. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the topic publicly, AP said.

That assessment and Biden’s comments at the Group of 20 summit in Indonesia contradict a report from a senior U.S. intelligence official on Tuesday who told the AP that Russian missiles had entered Poland, according to the AP.

US President Joe Biden said that according to preliminary information, it is unlikely that the missile that caused an explosion in Poland on Tuesday and killed two civilians was launched from Russian territory, CNN reports.

He added that “it is unlikely, given the trajectory, that it was fired from Russia. But we will see.”

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of Russia stated that the information about Russian missiles that fell in Poland is a “deliberate provocation”.

On Tuesday, Russia launched at least 85 missiles, most of which were aimed at Ukrainian energy facilities.
