Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the sequel to Marvel’s wildly successful 2018 Afro-futuristic film, dominated the North American box office in its opening weekend in theaters, AFP and Agerpres reported.

With an estimated gross of $180 million in the United States and Canada, the Marvel film ranks 13th on Box Office Mojo’s list of the highest-grossing releases of all time.

Internationally, the film grossed another $150 million.

“It’s a sensational release,” commented David Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research, “especially for a mid-November release.”

Journalists of Variety magazine also note that Wakanda Forever became the second best release of the year at the North American box office.

It remains the best issue of the year Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness which grossed $187 million in its first weekend of release.

A Marvel tribute film, an instant success at the box office

Wakanda is forever it’s a tribute to Chadwick Boseman, the star of the first one black Pantherwho died of colon cancer in 2020 at the age of 43.

The actor appears in flashbacks as T’Challa, the ruler of the fictional African kingdom of Wakanda.
