
The airport in Valencia was forced to suspend operations on Saturday due to a strong storm, the Spanish air traffic control body Enaire announced, as quoted by AFP, Agerpres reported.
“A severe storm at Valencia Airport has forced the suspension of all landings and all take-offs,” Enair wrote on Twitter.

“The runway at Valencia Airport is no longer operational following a lightning strike. Repairs will begin as soon as possible,” AENA, the company that manages the airport, said on Twitter.
The storm hit the east coast of the region on Friday night with strong winds and torrential rain that intensified early Saturday morning.
In some places in Valencia, it accumulated up to 150 mm.

According to Valencia Airport, at least nine flights due to land in Valencia were diverted to Alicante, Barcelona, Ibiza and Madrid airports.
The storm also affected rail services in the Valencia region, according to ADIF, the manager of Spain’s rail network, as well as several metro lines, according to data from the Valencia region administration.
