A Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress bomber and a Bell P-63 Kingcobra fighter collided and crashed at the Wings Over Dallas air show at the Dallas airport at 1:20 p.m. CST (18:20 GMT), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said in a statement.

Emergency crews responded to the accident, airport officials said on Twitter. The show is called the first in the country after World War II.

It is not known how many people were on board the two planes, the FAA said.

A video posted on social media showed the two planes colliding and soon falling to the ground engulfed in flames.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have opened an investigation, officials said.
