Western countries have supplied Ukraine with more air defense equipment after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy last month asked the leaders of the G7 to help stop the “rain” of Russian missiles on Ukrainian cities.

A representative of the Italian coalition, who agreed to speak only on condition of anonymity, said that Rome is ready to provide Ukraine with a variety of air defense systems, including the Franco-Italian SAMP-T medium-range anti-aircraft missile defense system. and Aspide anti-aircraft missile systems, as well as Stinger portable missiles.

However, it remains unclear how many of them they might offer or when they might be delivered, the official said.

Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto spoke by phone with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on Monday and pledged to support Ukraine against the Russian invasion “as much as necessary”, the report said.

Italy approved the first arms delivery to Kyiv at the end of February under Mario Draghi’s government. Georgia Maloney’s newly formed right-wing coalition government is preparing a sixth round of military aid.

Maloney has shown herself to be a strong supporter of Ukraine, despite the ambivalence of her coalition allies Matteo Salvini and Silvio Berlusconi, who historically have close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Rome has never released details of the weapons it has sent to Kyiv since the Russian invasion, but Italian and Ukrainian media have reported that previous shipments included rocket-propelled grenade launchers, Pzh2000 howitzers and armored vehicles.

On Monday, Kyiv announced that it had received the first delivery of NASAMS air defense systems from the United States. French President Emmanuel Macron promised to strengthen Kyiv’s air defense last week.

Ukraine announced on Monday that it has received new air defense systems from the US, Spain and Norway to counter Russia’s massive bombing of Ukrainian energy infrastructure.

“NASAMS and Aspide air defense systems have arrived in Ukraine! These weapons will significantly strengthen the Ukrainian army and make our skies safer. We will continue to shoot down the enemies who attack us. We thank our partners: Norway, Spain and the USA,” Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said on Twitter .
