One Ferrari, 4 Bentleys and 121 Porsches: sales count for 2022

The coronavirus pandemic shows that the global society is at the stage of overcoming it, and the automotive world today is facing its consequences, which have affected and continue to affect many areas of its activity. After all, it is now known that for more than a year, continuous lockdowns in China and other countries producing parts and cars have resulted in constant delays in the delivery of new cars to their potential owners, preventing many from proceeding to buy a new one. model. In addition, the order of things has been negatively affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which today has led to a new energy crisis, which most people are called to manage.

At the same time, cars must embark on a new path of greener mobility than ever with the advent of zero-emission electric vehicles that are preparing us for an emission-free future that is very close to us. Other technologies are advancing along with them, such as hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles, which are constantly gaining ground over traditional petrol or diesel options. SUVs, which are now the most popular segment of the market, are also gaining ground and, although small hatchbacks continue to lead in the preferences of the public in our country, small SUVs and small and medium SUVs are constantly increasing their shares and selling them, wanting to gain in sales of subcategories, as well as .

Car sales: upward trend despite challenges

Under these circumstances, and after a difficult first half of the year, which we predicted was affected by both factory lockdowns and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, new car sales in the country over the past two months show a recovery, turning into a positive sign of the year’s difference. compared to what happened in the corresponding period of 2021. It looks like there could be some sort of normalization in car deliveries in some cases, and the bet is now on which companies can get cars to cover the thousand pending orders faster. After all, it is no coincidence that offers are slowly entering the market, ready for delivery or with a short waiting time of one or two months, which we have been seeing for at least a year.

Now, in terms of sales figures, based on the most recent data, September last year was the best in 12 years in Greece as the number of first license plated vehicles was 8,606, representing an impressive growth of 30.2% compared to from September 2021. Similar figures for August, when 8,658 new cars were sold in our country, which means even higher growth, by almost 40% compared to 2021 (39.7%).

Following the results of these two months, 9 months of 2022, as we predicted, turned out to be positive compared to the corresponding period of 2021, with sales reaching 82,936 new models, representing an increase of 1.4%. Based on this data, it seems that Greece will also be able to close over 100,000 annual sales by 2022, a small number based on what has happened in the past, but certainly satisfying after everything our society has experienced over the past three years. of the year.

Brands that stand out

Having completed the 9th month of this year, we can say with confidence that Toyota, with 12,030 registrations and almost 5,000 cars from the second Peugeot, has become the champion of our country for another year. The Japanese marque managed to take first place in sales every month from January to August, and only in September it lost the first place to Peugeot. The French brand, in turn, is in second place with a narrow margin of just 72 vehicles from second-placed Hyundai (7,251 vs. 7,179 registrations), in a battle likely to be decided on the last day of the year. The first company in premium sales is Mercedes with 3907 sales and 850 cars difference from the second BMW.

Among the features of this year, it should be noted the presence of some sales of especially expensive cars, which we have been observing in our country for many years. First and best is the classification of the new Ferrari (SF90 Stradale), the first sold in our country after a decade, which will surely grace our roads. At the same level of price and prestige, two very expensive and collectible cars were sold in Greece in 2022, now that their production is completed, the Lamborghini Aventador, as well as two Lamborghini Urus SUVs. Worth mentioning are the four brand new Bentleys, 17 new Maserati and 121 new Porsches that were registered this year in Greece.
