Europe has a new “country” on the Internet – Listenbourg. It already appears on the “maps”, has an anthem, a coat of arms, a rich history and even a Formula 1 Grand Prix. Listenbourg is apparently a joke that started as an irony for Americans who do not know geography well.
Listenenburg does not exist, but tens of thousands of Internet users were sure of the existence of this country. It all started with a Frenchman’s joke about American citizens who are not well versed in geography, writes Euronews.
It’s only been three days since a photoshopped map of Listenburg, a fictional country accidentally stuck on the Iberian Peninsula, went viral around the world.
At first, it was nothing more than criticism of the Americans and their alleged ignorance of geography.
