Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said NATO forces would attack Moscow’s allies, such as Belarus, after the number of multinational battalion-sized tactical groups in Central and Eastern Europe increased 2.5 times since the start of the war, Russian state news agency TASS reported.
The number of NATO battle groups in Central and Eastern Europe has increased by 2.5 times and now reaches more than 30,000 servicemen, and may increase in the near future, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said at a meeting with the military leadership of the Republic of Belarus.
“In Central and Eastern Europe, as well as in the Baltic States, the formation of the armed forces of non-regional NATO states has been deployed. In Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia, new multinational tactical battalion groups are being created. The number of the group has increased by 2.5 times since February 2022 and now is more than 30,000 people, and may increase in the near future,” Shoigu said.
The Minister of Defense of Russia emphasizes that after the expansion of the NATO group “Russia’s allies will be attacked, primarily the Republic of Belarus.”
Shoigu said that under these conditions, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation considers ensuring the military security of the state to be a priority.

Russia will consider the deployment of American troops in Romania while ensuring its own security
The statements came shortly after Moscow issued new pretexts and threats last week, this time also referring to Romania, which has been on the list of “countries unfriendly to Russia” since March, shortly after the invasion of Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the deployment of American troops in Romania will increase the danger for Russia, and Moscow will take this into account when ensuring its own security, writes the Russian state news agency TASS. Although American troops stationed in Romania perform a purely defensive role.
“The closer US forces are to our borders, the greater the danger for us. Of course, the more we oppose and will oppose when we guarantee our own security,” the Kremlin spokesman said, referring to the deployment of American forces.
In any case, this deployment of American troops near the Russian borders “does not lead to increased predictability and stability” in the region, Peskov also said.
US Army’s 101st Airborne Division Deploys to Europe for First Time in Eight Decades
TASS writes with reference to the American TV channel CBS, which reported in Romania that the 101st Airborne Division of the United States, stationed in Europe, is ready to enter the territory of Ukraine in the event of an escalation between Moscow and Kyiv or an attack on a NATO member state.
Washington announced the redeployment – the first in nearly 80 years – as it bolstered NATO’s eastern flank last summer. That includes 4,700 military personnel, according to CBS.
The team of the American television channel CBS, located at the Mykhailo Kogelnicanu military base, filmed a report about the 101st Airborne Division, an elite unit of the US Army, sent to Romania to support NATO’s eastern flank.
The US Army’s 101st Airborne Division has been deployed to Europe for the first time in 78 years amid rising tensions between Russia and the NATO military alliance, CBS News reports.
