The manufacturer of sports equipment Nike has stopped cooperation with the American basketball player Kyrie Irving, a player of the Brooklyn Nets team, who promoted an anti-Semitic film on social networks last week, EFE reports.
Nike suspends cooperation with Kyrie Irving: “We condemn any form of anti-Semitism”
“At Nike, we believe there is no place for hate, and we condemn any form of anti-Semitism. We have made the decision to immediately end our relationship with Kyrie Irving and discontinue the Kyrie 8 (basketball shoe). We are saddened and disappointed by the situation and the impact it has had,” the company said in a statement released to media from the United States.
On Wednesday, Kyrie Irving admitted that he promoted on social networks an anti-Semitic film that had a “negative effect” on the Jewish community, pledging to donate $500,000 to associations fighting to eradicate hatred and intolerance, writes Agerpres.
Nike’s decision comes after rival company Adidas, which terminated its contract with rapper Kanye West ten days ago, was suspended from Twitter and Instagram after he tweeted that he would attack Jews.
