Authorities’ investigation of person or persons continues who “planted” 16 kg of cocaine in a container of bananas found by IRS auditors.
According to well-informed sources who spoke to cathimerini.gr, the drugs were placed in the refrigerated compartment of the container, which is located at the rear of the container and is separated from the main cargo. The question arises when the drugs were placed in the refrigerator and by whom.
“The drugs were found in a cold store, which is separated from the main cargo. There was a wire seal at the central entrance of the container, which is not broken. The back wall, where the refrigerator is located, is not sealed, and therefore, given the constant access to it both during transportation and during loading, it turns out when and by whom the drugs were placed there. Perhaps someone, even a crew member, hid them there after the fact or while the container was on the ship with it.” noted features.
The control of a specific container was carried out after its selection by a special risk analysis algorithm. As added by the same sources “The risk analysis system is very complex. When a container arrives from places like Ecuador or Costa Rica, it is considered to be cargo requiring screening. Experienced inspectors put him through the X-ray machine and were able to locate the drugs.”.
As mentioned above, the container arrived from Costa Rica and had its final destination in Croatia. A special self-propelled X-ray unit scanned the container and found signs of organic material in the refrigeration area. 14 packages with 16 kilograms of cocaine were found, the cost of which is 650,000 euros.
