Tarantino on Marvel: ‘Filmmakers can’t wait for superhero movies to die’

OUR Quentin Tarantino discredits superhero films by criticizing the “suffocation” they have caused in modern cinema.

The popular director compared the current superhero movie craze produced by the Marvel Film and Television Studios to the “explosion” of musicals in the 1960s.

In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Tarantino talks about how New Hollywood pioneers rejoiced when the film music genre went into decline. So even today, “modern filmmakers look forward to the day when superhero movies disappear.”

However, as he mentions, the end of this species is not near. When asked why he didn’t make a Marvel movie, the maker of films like Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Reservoir Dogs, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood replied: Seasonal to do something similar. I’m not looking for a job either.”

Tarantino is not alone in criticizing such films. Martin Scorsese compared the genre to a theme park ride, stating in 2019 that it “isn’t a movie, it’s something else”. “This should not “strangle” us. Movie theaters need to step up and show narrative films.”
