As one severe but expected bad weather for the season characterizes the one that will appear from the morning of Saturday 05/11/2022 and last until the evening of Sunday 06/11/2022, affecting the whole country, Konstantinos Laguvardosdirector of research at the National Observatory in Athens.
As he says: “The barometric low will affect the entire country within two days, starting from the Ionian Sea and Western Greece and gradually moving east. The rain system will also affect Attica from Saturday afternoon. On Sunday, the system will move further east towards Evia, the eastern Aegean islands, the Dodecanese and Crete, but there will be occasional showers in the rest of the country.”
The physicist, meteorologist and partner of the meteorologist also talks about the bad weather express arriving from the south of Italy, Stavros Dafis. “Although he is fast, he will manage to increase his winds significantly,” says Mr. Dafis “K”. However, he clarifies that the temperature will still remain at a high level: 25-26 degrees Celsius in the center of the country. The winds will be southerly, and their strength at sea will even reach 8 on the Beaufort scale.
The rains in Attica, according to Mr. Dafi, will begin on Saturday in the late afternoon or evening and by Sunday dawn will acquire the features of a storm, although short, but significant. It will also rain in Macedonia and Thrace on Saturday night.
The weather scene will change on Sunday 06/11/2022 when and the temperature will drop by 8 degrees in a few hours and from 25 degrees it will drop to below 20 – the average temperature on Sunday will be from 15 to 19 degrees Celsius in the midday hours. Winds from the south will change to the north and in some places will reach the sea with a force of 7 on the Beaufort scale.
The next day on Monday, 11/07/2022, the temperature will rise slightly, but in general it will remain slightly lower than this week.
Heavy rains will hit Epirus and the Ionian Islands, while a similar scenario is expected in Evia, which a partner meteorologist said could exacerbate the situation in fire-affected areas, Mr Dafi said.
As for the precipitation category, it will be possible to announce with confidence tomorrow Friday, when forecasters will have more data on hand, but category 3 is already “locked”.
