Space “garbage” weighing 23 tons will fall to Earth and no one knows where

Second time this year and fourth piece of Chinese in two years rocketweighing 23 tons and a height of a 10-storey building – spins like Russian roulette around the Earth and no one knows where it will fall.

Space debris, part of the Long March 5B rocket, is likely to fall in an uncontrolled manner. today or saturday.

Although most of the rocket will burn up in the Earth’s atmosphere, part of it – from 20% to 40% – is expected to fall on herprobably in the sea that covers 70% of our planet.

Estimated to be approx. 88% of the world’s population lives in areas of potential declinebut experts still pointed out that the chances of someone being hit by a huge “garbage” were only six out of 10 trillion.

This rocket was used to launch the third and final segment of China’s new Tiangong space station on October 31st.

As with previous launches of the same heavy-lift rocket, China’s space agency did not perform a controlled descent the part left behind by the rocket after the payload has been dropped.

Recall that over the past two years we have three other incidents uncontrolled fall of space debris:

  • In July of this year, a section of a Long March 5B rocket weighing between 5.5 and 10 tons crashed in the Indian Ocean.
  • in April 2021, something similar happened in the same ocean,
  • and in 2020, parts of the rocket fell somewhere in West Africa.

Although no crashes or deaths reported so far away from such incidents, the voices of those who call for the establishment of international rules or even laws to prevent such incidents from other countries with a space program are gradually increasing.
