The national railway company CFR SA reports that the first contract for the modernization of railway infrastructure under the PNRR, worth 1.44 billion lei, excluding VAT, was signed on Friday for Lot 3 Timisoara East – Ronat Triai (14 km). Timișoara North railway station will also be modernized, a new building will be built and several new passages will be made, and there will be a new bus stop called Timișoara centru.

Trains currently run at a maximum speed of 100 km/h between Timişoara and Ronat, and after the modernization it will be possible to reach 160 km/h.

What CFR SA says

The duration of the contract worth 1.44 billion lei excluding VAT is 42 months, of which 6 months for design and 36 months for execution of works.

Association WEBUILD SPA – Partecipazioni Italia SPA – SALCEF SPA – Timisoara – Arad Lot 3, selected as the winner in July by CFR SA, the decision later confirmed by the Court of Appeal, will develop the technical design and carry out the modernization work of the railway infrastructure and superstructure for a maximum speed of 160 km/h on the East Timişoara-Ronac-Triai section (Lot 3), 13.86 km long, including railway duplication works, modernization of art works (bridges/decks), construction works at stations and passenger transport stops, underpasses/overpasses and footpaths, special railway operation works, through the construction of maintenance buildings, a regional traffic control center and the implementation of the ERTMS system (ETCS level 2 and GSM-R).

Purposes of social utility

• Gheorghe Adam SUPERIOR PASSAGE (connects Gheorghe Adam, Avram Imbroane, Aristide Demetriade and East Station streets)

• TIMțOARA EST CF STATION (16 modernized lines, pedestrian walkway for access to platforms and for railway crossing, loading and unloading ramp, special ramp (military mobility) and integration of communication with Trajan Vuya Airport 6.5 km long, connecting double line CF – 2.05 km, with signaling and telecommunication facilities)

• ENRIC BAADER SUPERIOR PASSAGE – TIMISHARA (connects the streets Enric Baader, Aristide Demetriade, Divizia 9 Cavalerie, Calea Mallului)

• TIMISOARA CENTRU PASSENGER STOP (NEW intermediate station with lighted platforms – photovoltaic panels – provides rail connection with the commercial complex and the historical area)

• TIMțOARA NORD CF STATION (34 modernized lines, new access point to the station, access to the platform with escalators, elevators, waiting area for boarding, new car park, pedestrian walkway for railway crossing, maintenance building and Control Center operating in area of ​​the street, the whole section)

• NEW PASSENGER BUILDING Timișoara Nord, including CENTRAL PASSAGE (elevators, escalators, access for people with disabilities, access to platforms via the central pedestrian bridge, photovoltaic panels, connection of Nera Street with Gairi de Nord Street)

• HIGHWAY for connection COMOAREI – RADU DE LA AFUMATI (connects Comoarei and Radu de la Afumați streets)

• UPPER PASSAGE DN 6 RONAȚ TRIAJ district, km 564+720 (ensures the crossing of the railway line)

• SHOCK ABSORBING PANELS – total length of 8.26 km

• PHOTO PANELS – on canopies, footpaths and roofs of railway buildings.

The contract is related to the objective “Modernization of the CF line Carancebeş – Timişoara – Arad”, which is financed by grants provided by the National Plan for Recovery and Resilience (PNRR), Component 4 – Sustainable Transport.
