  • “When someone talks about a “diplomatic settlement,” he actually offers Ukraine to fulfill Russia’s ultimatum: surrender its territories and admit its defeat.
  • The Ukrainian people will never agree to this. Therefore, I have a request: stop offering Ukraine capitulation under the guise of diplomacy!” Podolyak wrote on Twitter.

Russia is trying to force Ukraine’s partners to put pressure on President Volodymyr Zelensky to accept Moscow’s ultimatum at the negotiating table and freeze the conflict, Mykhailo Podolyak said in an interview given at the end of October to the German TV channel Welt, writes Agerpres.

Simply freezing the conflict means giving Moscow a break to prepare for the continuation of the invasion, Podolyak emphasized, as quoted by Ukrinform.

In the first phase of the conflict, which reached its 253rd day on Thursday, Russia and Ukraine held four rounds of delegation-level talks, the last of which took place on March 29 in Turkey.

This process was suspended because, according to Kyiv, the Russian side did not put forward anything concrete for discussion.

On September 30, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a speech regarding the annexation of four Ukrainian regions – Zaporizhia, Kherson (south), Donetsk and Luhansk (east) – asked Ukraine to immediately cease fire and sit down at the negotiating table, ruling out that the return of Ukrainian territories could be an issue discussions

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy replied that Ukraine wants to reach an agreement with the Russian Federation, but this is impossible with the current president of the Russian Federation. “He doesn’t know what dignity and honesty are. That’s why we are ready for a dialogue with Russia, but with a different president,” Zelensky emphasized, as quoted by Unian.

On October 4, Zelensky announced the entry into force of the decision of the National Security Council of Ukraine from September 30, which officially declares the “impossibility of negotiating with Putin.”
