“The only way to facilitate a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine is to help Kyiv defend itself militarily,” the Italian prime minister told parliament on Wednesday. Georgia Meloni.
“Peace can be achieved by supporting Ukraine. This is the only chance we have for both sides to reach an agreement,” Meloni told the Senate ahead of the vote of confidence.
The Italian Prime Minister has repeatedly declared support for Kyiv, while her coalition allies Silvio Berlusconi as well as Matteo Salvini showed an ambivalent attitude to this issue due to their historical ties with the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin.
Meloni said that while the arms Italy supplies to Ukraine are not critical to the outcome of the war, they are vital for Italy to maintain its international credibility.
