A flurry of shelling of Kyiv and other cities

Recall that early on Monday morning a series of explosions thundered in his capital. Ukrainian, Kyivwhile regional authorities in the north, east and center of the country spoke of Russian rocket attacks, and the Ukrainian president condemned Moscow’s “massive attack” on energy infrastructure.

According to eyewitnesses cited by Reuters, smoke was visible over Kyiv after about 10 explosions. As AFP journalists reported, from 08:00 to 08:20, at least five explosions sounded in the Ukrainian capital.

At the same time, there were reports of explosions in the Zaporozhye, Odessa and Lviv regions, and sirens sounded almost throughout the country. Ukrainian officials said “more than 50 rockets” were fired at the country.

“Russian terrorists have once again launched a massive attack on power grid facilities in a number of areas,” said Kyrylo Tymoshenko, adviser to the President of Ukraine. “Some missiles were intercepted by air defense systems, while others hit the target,” he added.

“Another batch of Russian missiles hit Ukraine’s critical infrastructure. Instead of fighting on the battlefield, Russia is fighting against civilians,” Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba lamented. “Don’t justify these attacks by calling them ‘retaliation.’ kill Ukrainians,” he added.

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko said the rockets hit the energy infrastructure of Kyiv and other cities, causing power and water outages. “Russia is not interested in peace talks or global food security. (Russian President Vladimir) Putin’s only goal is death and destruction,” he stressed.

In recent weeks, Russia has stepped up air strikes on Ukraine after blaming Kyiv for the explosion that damaged the Crimean bridge.

Over the weekend, Russia suspended its participation in the grain deal, saying that Ukrainian and British drones attacked its fleet off the coast of Crimea, and also accused London of sabotaging the Nord Stream gas pipeline. On the other hand, Kyiv accuses Russia of “inventing terrorist attacks”, while London denies any involvement.
