The evacuation of the population and the removal of Potemkin’s remains from Kherson precede Russia’s intentions to speed up the withdrawal from this area, they believe Saturday morning assessment of the British Ministry of Defence.
Volodymyr Saldo, the governor of the Kherson region appointed by Russia, announced on October 27 that more than 70,000 people had left Kherson.
A day earlier, Saldo also announced that Russia had removed the remains of the famous 18th-century Russian statesman Prince Grigory Potemkin from his cathedral in Kherson, east of the Dnieper.
“In Russian national identity, Potemkin is closely associated with Russia’s conquest of Ukrainian territories in the 18th century and underscores the importance that Putin almost certainly attaches to the alleged historical justification for the invasion. This symbolic removal of Potemkin and the flight of the civilian population will likely precede Russia’s intentions to accelerate its exit from the area,” British military intelligence believes.
A day earlier, British military intelligence said that due to lack of personnel and poor training, Russian troops went on the defensive on most of the front line in Ukraine.
